Cookie policy.
This site sets no tracking cookies and shows no banner, because there is nothing to consent to. Here is exactly what is set, and when. Page views are counted without setting anything at all.
Why there is no banner
The only cookies on kutara.shop are the ones that keep you signed in once you have chosen to sign in. Cookie laws (the EU’s ePrivacy rules, the UK’s PECR) do not ask for consent for cookies that are strictly necessary for something you asked for, and Australia has no cookie-consent law. If this site ever sets a cookie for any other reason, a banner will ask you first.
Page views are counted, and that is done without any cookie. Your address and browser description are turned into a short one-way hash with a secret that is replaced every day, which is enough to tell two people apart today and not enough to recognise you tomorrow. Because no cookie is set and no other company is involved, there is nothing to ask you to consent to. If you would rather not be counted, visit kutara.shop/?nostats once: that saves one flag in your browser saying so, and nothing is counted from it again. The privacy policy spells out exactly what each view records.
What is set
| Cookie | Set by | When | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
__session | Clerk (accounts) | When you sign in | Keeps you signed in. Holds a signed token, not your password. Removed when you sign out; otherwise it lasts as long as your session, by default about seven days from your last visit. |
__client_uat | Clerk (accounts) | On any page, while accounts are switched on | A timestamp of when your sign-in state last changed, so that every page agrees on whether you are signed in. It is 0 while you are signed out and holds nothing about you. Cleared when you clear your browser’s cookies. |
| Short-lived sign-in cookies | Clerk (accounts) | During sign-in only | Technical cookies that carry you through the sign-in steps, including the redirect back from Google. Gone within minutes. |
Set by other sites you are sent to
- Stripe. Payment happens on Stripe’s own checkout page, which sets Stripe’s cookies for fraud prevention under Stripe’s policy. None of them are set on kutara.shop.
- YouTube. If a video is embedded on this site, nothing loads from YouTube until you press play. When you do, the player comes from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube’s privacy-enhanced domain, which sets cookies only once you play.
- Google. Choosing “Sign in with Google” takes you to Google, which uses its own cookies to sign you in there.
Browser storage
This site’s own code keeps two things in your browser’s local storage, and only if you ask for them. One is a flag saying you do not want your page views counted, saved when you visit /?nostats; it holds nothing about you, it is never read by anything else, and /?nostats=off removes it. The other is the list of videos you press Save on in Outliers, which stays in your browser, is never sent anywhere, and clears itself of anything older than thirty days. Clerk’s sign-in script may keep a small amount of technical state there, for the same purpose as its cookies and holding nothing about you. (My own dashboard page keeps its password in local storage on my own machine, which affects nobody but me.)
What is not used
No analytics, no advertising cookies, no tracking pixels, no fingerprinting, and no third-party scripts other than Clerk’s, which runs the sign-in. There is nothing here for a “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control setting to switch off, because nothing is on.
Your choices
Signing out removes the session cookie. Your browser can block or delete cookies for this site at any time; the only effect is that you will be signed out and will need to sign in again. Everything else on the site works with cookies blocked.
